FAQs for Dr bike 2026 - luton borough council:
What is the service?
1
This service is designed to offer bicycle repairs to the people of Luton, removing the cost of bicycle repairs to remove barriers to active travel. The free service is a safety check and replacement of cables & brake pads where required and available. The general slot duration is between 10 and 20 minutes. We have put a maximum time limit on each bike to be 30 mins.
How long does the session last?
2
The start and finish time of the event depends on the location. These will be advertised on the original promotion posters and social media posts. The first bike cannot be put in the stand before the start time and the last bike is to go into the stand no later than 10 minutes before the end time of the event to ensure that the session finishes at the correct time. The sessions are happening across Luton for the entirety of 2026. Depending on the success of the sessions Luton Borough Council may continue the sessions further.
What the service is not designed for:
3
The service is designed to keep bicyclers roadworthy by offering a basic safety check and carry out adjustments and minor repairs. Bicycles obviously neglected, deemed dangerous or tampered with outside of regulation (Modified E bikes, Pedal Assist motobikes) cannot be worked on for insurance reasons. The service is not designed to offer full servicing (bottom brackets, headsets, hubs).
